The NHRDA is proud to announce it's partnership with ARP, Automotive Racing Products, as the "Official Fastener" of the 2012 MBRP Diesel Drag Race Series!
Well folks after many Rough weekends & a lot of hard work from a lot of good people, this team finally has this car shook down & in true contention for the sevens. There have so many changes & new technologies involved with the new car that it has taken this much effort to get her there. We have made 12 pass` on it since last Wednesday & it just keeps getting faster. We now have a 172 mph pass in the ¼ with a 8.06 et. I have no doubts we will hit our 7 by the end of the year.
Emily Herod Driver of the Nitrous Express
Dragster had her sights set upon becoming the next World Champion early
in 2011. Emily and team traveled up from Texas to the FASS Nationals
at Indianapolis in June to debut the car and they won the event.
Soon after Indy they began preparations and testing for the World Finals in September and her quest to become World Champion.
Mike
Woods owner of Nitrous Express was on hand at Heartland Park and was
very excited to see his team blow away the competition by running a
8.13Et at 173.70mph
I have been on cloud nine since last
Saturday! Of course I would never have gotten there without God. Mike
Wood and the entire Nitrous Express crew have worked their butts off
preparing the car for every race and I want to give them a big thanks
for that! I have had so much fun racing that car this year and winning
the World Championship put icing on the cake. I met and raced great
people at the events,
everyone was friendly to me and my family. We
are looking forward to next year and maybe we can pull off another
championship. Thanks to the NHRDA for great hospitality and putting on
great events and races !
Sincerely,
Emily Herod
2011 Top Diesel World Champion
It seems like only yesterday that the NHRDA season began, but here it is already September and the season is over! The good news is that your support was not wasted; we are the NHRDA Top Diesel World Champions!
Emily’s driving skills and a lot of luck landed us in the winner’s circle this weekend at the World Finals in Topeka, Kansas. We had some pretty stiff competition when Dan Scheid showed up with the worlds quickest and fastest Top Diesel dragster as well as John Robinson’s Cummins powered Funny Car. We were lucky enough to qualify #1 when Sheid’s dragster experienced waste gate problems on his first qualifying pass and was shut off with engine problems after his burnout on his last qualifier. Robinson’s funny car exploded a turbo charger on his first qualifying pass and was not able to return to competition. Matt Handwork in the Bone Shaker Altered put on an excellent show for the crowd as did all of the competitors. It rained both days and cut qualifying to only two passes.
After struggling with rain, an uncooperative injector and a finicky dual fuel pump tune up we were finally able to battle our way to the finals facing the Bone Shaker altered. We had experienced several engine backfires in the burnout so we decided to forgo the burnout ritual in the finals and just get the car staged and hope for the best. When the tree dropped Emily cut her best light yet in the NX dragster and never looked back as Matt experienced trouble at mid track and was forced to shut off. Our 8.13 ET was a big disappointment but it was good enough to clinch the World Championship!
Our racing season is far from over however. We still will attend the remaining NADM events in Columbus OH, Denton, TX and Orlando FL. Plus we are going to try to set a new land speed record in the standing mile in late October at THE TEXAS MILE event in Beeville TX. That’s right, a LSR in the Nitrous Express diesel powered dragster. We have it geared to run over 275mph so all we need now is some open space and a little luck!
We have now had four straight successful events where the crowds were quite good and the number of competitors were also strong. Either the industry is picking up or we must be doing something right for such success! You contribute daily supporting our sport and we want to thank you for that support during the trying times and economy. DIESEL Motorsports® has three more events before the end of the year and we ask that we continue to make those successful to show the continued growth toward the last of the year.

eautiful weather, over 200 trucks competing in DIESEL drag racing, sled pulling, dyno and Shownshine, over 3500 diesel fans, and A&A Automotive's Vendor Alley providing unheard of bargains made the weekend a picture perfect DIESEL Motorsports event.
Diesel enthusiasts with their families and friends backed their trucks up to the track for 1/4 mile on both sides to watch the excitement of having diesel drag racing and sled pulling running at the same time!
Two of the fastest CLEAN diesel dragsters ran early in the morning, Wade Moody's S-10 Duramax and NX's Duramax rail ran some impressive passes in the 5s and 8s.
Unlimited heads up drag racing trucks ran impressive numbers in the 9s and l0s all day but the two in the finals were winner Bruce Block and runner up Josh Gross.
One of the most unlikely winners was second place in ET Bracket at 18 seconds Estimated Time was Daryl Darlington's Diesel Mercedes four door sedan! Yes even Daryl was shocked and told us he just recently bought the car and questioned whether he should come, congrats Daryl!
The MudLife Monster truck was there for the kids to pose in front of and get washable fake tattoos put on them with the Mudlife logo.
Some of the North East's most powerful trucks were there to sled pull on the track right next to the drag strip. Large numbers in all classes lined up to pull and most top pulls were from locals. Wayne Greier's Resurrected Ram and Cliff Carnes' Super street modifieds put on a quite impressive show for the crowds.
A&A's 160 foot tent store had over 50 manufacturers represented with some unbelievable show bargains for the fan's trucks. Many of the manufacturers sent their representatives to talk directly to diesel enthusiasts. Other vendors included Flo-Pro Exhaust (official exhaust), XDP (official .com) and "The Little Power Shop".
Overall a successful show that would make any promoter proud of putting on such an event. NADM would like to thank the track, NADM staff and the competitors for putting on a great DIESEL Motorsports show!

These are head studs for John Robinson's diesel dragster.

From John-
"We have switched the fuel systems & turbos over to Scheid Diesel Motorsports. The boost we are now hitting 155 lbs & the hp is up to 1500. We are fixing to do a 5 stop tour out west with 4 truck stop appearences, Aug 1 we will be in Butte MT, Aug 2 we will be in Billings MT, Aug 3rd we will be in Cheyenne WY, Aug 4 we will be in Denver CO. We'll end up at Bandimere on Aug 7 for an event known as Truck Fest where we will be racing. Mahle Motorsports has stepped up to the plate with us as well by building some new pistons for this new engine."
I wish I could tell everyone that the car ran great and we won the race again but no such luck this time around. We got to the track in Numidia, Pennsylvania on Friday, unloaded the car and displayed it for all the spectators and racers to see, there was a great crowd. We got a lot of attention and talked to a ton of people.
Saturday morning dawned a beautiful day and we warmed up the engine and tranny to get ready to try our brand new combination. We had lightened the car, removed the front and rear wings to improve aerodynamics, reprogrammed the nitrous controller to eliminate “all” the diesel smoke and installed the new “Big” fuel pump that had shown on the dyno to make an easy 200 more horsepower than the old one. As they say in Texas, we were loaded for BEAR!
At 9:30 AM Emily pulled the car into the burnout box and hit the throttle, WOW! Copious smoke poured off the rear tires as the turbos spooled instantly with no smoke, except the tires. This was looking good! She backed up and staged the car and it instantly got on the converter stalling to 4800RPM’s with the turbos pumping out a solid 40 pounds of boost. The tree flashed and Emily was on her way to the quickest pass of her life, 1.12 60 ft, 3.17 to the 330 mark, then disaster struck. As the car shifted from low to high gear the fuel pump drive gave up and the motor went silent, Emily coasted through the eighth mile with a 4.94 @ 134MPH…………….
The good news, if there was any, is that the Numidia PA track is at an altitude of 5300 feet. This usually dictates very poor performance from any internal combustion powered vehicle and it did slow some of the vehicles up to one half of a second. If this was true with our car then we are looking at 6 second potential at sea level. Like with most racers, we know what it takes to run a certain ET, a 1.12 60ft time combined with a 3.17 would indicate a mid 4.80 eighth mile and further math indicates the imaginary quarter mile ET to be a sub 7.50 pass. This gives us hope for the six second zone by the end of this year.
